Mother Rising

What follows here is a flow of consciousness, of ideas based on sensing and perception of current energies.

A wondering and diving into the ‘whys’ of a re-emergence of the Great Mother.

Why NOW? What makes her energy specifically necessary to these times? What can we learn from teachings about Adi Parashakti that may be applied to our understanding of our place in this vast cosmos?
Whatever the conclusion, Mother is rising and she is rising for a reason.

✨️I am not a scholar on vedic teachings. What I know I have looked into as I have been called to do so, led by the hand through sleep states into ancient forests and ruined ancient temples where a once thriving worship and deep understanding of Universal Mother thrived.
I am being prodded to investigate this trail of breadcrumbs, gently guided to take one step, then another…She is no New Age invention, no conglomerate of wishy-washy ideas threaded together to make a convenient argument against a patriarchy.

She IS and always WAS.

Whether documented as Inanna, Isis, Mary, Shekinah or many others, only tenuous threads of our collective and primordial understanding of the  consciousness & creative force of the Absolute have survived humanity’s long history. SHE has always been. ‘Before Abraham was, I Am’ (John 8 v58).

The First Cause, the Power, the flow of manifested & unmanifested has been designated as feminine. We understand this as ‘Woman’, as related to the female biological imperative of reproduction – something that only a woman has the power to accomplish. That ‘Mother’ vibe, that strength to create, sustaining life at her breast, to destroy anything that threatens her creation, that is Her power.
Yet Mahashakti is pure energy. While we may attach feminine aspects to this creative source for our own comfort & understanding, It is much more vast and all encompassing than any epithet or crude illustration. She is without beginning or end.
Now she rises, awakening from her slumber, where her flame still flickers in the recesses of each being, unrecognized yet undaunted.
What the world needs now is Mother. Not as an idol or religious icon, but a remembrance of the nature of all things…

Celebrated as the Triple Goddess in cultures thousands of miles apart, she is the Creative (Maiden), Sustaining (Mother), Destroyer (Crone). Whilst each character depicted in this triptych is a template for the stages of the female life, the Primal Energy also encompasses each aspect, as seen in nature.  She is more than this however, as taught in the Vedic tradition, Adi Parashakti is both Nature/Matter/Manifest (Prakriti) and Consciousness/Spirit/Unmanifest (Purusha). She is Para Brahman, the Ultimate Reality.

But why prick our collective conscience now?

What is it about this time that is all important for recognition of The Supreme Energy?

Much has been written on the dissolution of society and culture as we know it. Not on a purely material, physical level, but at a quantum or energetic one. We have perhaps read or heard of theories on the Mayan Calendar and an age of the ‘apocalypse’ (from the root simply meaning to ‘reveal’) or of the birthing of a ‘New Earth’ into higher dimensions of light.

Whether invested in these particular theories or not, one needn’t go far to find evidence of increasing chaos and conflict in our world.

Perhaps through our human hubris we have become culturally conditioned to view any restoration of order, balance and harmony to society as a primarily masculine act; something only achievable with the tightening of laws, belts and policies? If so, perhaps Mother rises now in this moment that we might remember an alternate path to the one we are currently collectively treading.

Don’t be fooled, Mahadevi is more than capable of destruction, but it is not a willy-nilly, hatred fuelled apocalypse that She embodies. Whether as Cailleach (in Celtic tradition), Crone/Matron, Baba Yaga (Slavic tradition) or as Kali (Hinduism), she destroys only that which can no longer stand.

Hindu MaaKali is an aspect of Adi Parashakti in her most destructive embodiment. We see her depicted as a fearsome, wild-eyed virago, wearing a necklace made of the skulls of her enemies and her long tongue dripping blood. In western eyes and minds, she is devilish and to be feared, a demon woman, the feminine lunatic howling at the moon, a banshee. What this western christian-centric knee jerk definition of Kali misses in it’s naïve understanding is all important; Kali is the destroyer of illusion (Maya). Akin to all of the aforementioned matriarchs, she destroys only that which keeps us bound in what is unreal and no longer sustainable.

What better time for us to reawaken to this primal force? As the structures of power, bureaucracy, and politics around the globe are being shaken, what is being asked of us is singularly important; Is this the world you truly want?

Life is spun in perpetual spirals which  cycle inwards and outwards. The vedic idea of the creation of Ages (Yuga) as the inbreath and outbreath of Brahman is particularly compelling and paints an image of the ever expanding and contracting of creation; the birth, life, death and rebirth which is reflected from the macrocosm into the microcosm (the Hermetic doctrine of ‘as above, so below. As within, so without’.)

The force behind it all is Adi Parashakti, The Absolute, God.

Right now we are all being called back to a recognition of our True Nature as the out-picturing of this Ultimate Energy. We are collectively being offered the soft, warm hand of a welcoming Mother, a lap upon which to rest our confused and weary heads. She restores harmony, not through dictats but through the most delicate of touches, a gentle movement, by grace. She personifies compassion and unconditional love, giving a welcoming embrace to all of her children. When balance is present She works as nature to sustain us and help us to thrive and evolve, not just physiologically but spiritually. Forever encouraging our joy as it is Her joy to behold that in us.

As every Mother knows, there is a time for everything; love, comfort and also discipline and this is the Way too of The Great Mother; she is asking us to return to the bosom of what is True and real because we have strayed too far from the path.

It is because of the Absolute’s unconditional esteem for us as Her children that we are all deemed worthy of such incredible grace, that no matter how far we have fallen from Her, how much hurt, delusion and pain we have inflicted on ourselves and others, we are always worthy of redemption.

Mother is rising NOW because we have forgotten who we are.

She is calling us home to Her, like errant little children playing just out of sight.

Great Mother is reaching out to us all, not because She has forgotten who we are, but because we have forgotten  ourselves.
