How to stay balanced during your mediumship development and beyond

Before jumping in to your psychic and mediumistic attunement feet first, there are some crucial pieces of information regarding your health and wellbeing that you should know.

Not many teachers will give you these facts, many either simply aren’t aware of them or they are and are willing to put people’s mental and emotional health at risk.

After all, talking about the potential hazards of development are neither glamorous nor exciting.

But the difficulties are real.

When we sit in the Power to develop, we are opening our energetic being (auras, chakras etc) to the condensed conditions of the World of the Spirit. This allows the correct atmosphere for our guides and helpers to step forwards and fine tune us to these vibrations.

As well as often contributing to our physical healing, it is well worth being aware of the unintentional consequences of repeated exposure to these energies.

For proper attunement to take place, for our minds to become tuned in to the Next World, changes in our electro-magnetic and hormonal energies must take place.

In the development of mental mediumship we are operating through and from the Mental Aura (along with other fields and energy centres.) We are purposefully changing the mental faculties to allow psychic processes to take place.

Therefore, if you already have a well balanced mind, with no emotional or mental difficulties, no untreated trauma or mental health problems, although you may still experience times of sadness, nervousness etc although these will all hopefully be short lived.

However, for those individuals with existing mental health diagnoses, untreated trauma, emotional and psychological wounds or any kind of disordered thought processes, you may be in for a much bumpier ride.

Sitting in the magnetic, psychic energies of a development circle can be wonderfully uplifting, however they serve to amplify the mental and emotional state of the individuals in attendance. This amplification takes place in order that we become used to the higher, finer, subtler frequencies of the Next World (and are thus able to establish connection with those resident there.)

It’s worth stopping for a moment, before deciding to dedicate yourself to a pathway of psychic and mediumistic development and asking yourself this one simple question:

‘Do I wish my current mental and emotional state to be amplified?’

Be honest with yourself. There is absolutely NO shame in putting your wellbeing first. In fact, that’s exactly what you should do. After all, what help can you be to others if you are unable or unwilling to help yourself first?

Everybody who walks the path of development has ups and downs, many seem to be on an accelerated path of learning and the lessons that come thick and fast are not always easy to deal with.

I have personally experienced my own unresolved issues coming up over and over again to be resolved and it can be exhausting and at times, quite debilitating.

If you are unprepared for this or not in a state of balance to begin with, these problems may really take you by surprise and create many more problems.

Our own wellbeing and the wellbeing of others.

As a psychic or medium you will be working with other people; whether in a weekly development circle or giving sittings or demonstrations of clairvoyance. Each setting requires that you interact with individuals as a conduit for often very personal evidence and information. The people you work with may be emotionally vulnerable; in deep grief, confusion, depression or even despair. When you are dealing with such levels of vulnerability, you need to be sure that you are not trying to help them from the wounded and unhealed places within you.

It is for this reason among many, that I champion the development of self awareness proceeding or at least as concurrent to mediumship development.

I have also observed that the more unhealed a medium is, the more they tend towards molly-coddling their sitter or recipient. The less emotionally balanced a medium is, the less sensible help they will be able to offer the person in front of them.

After all, if you are drowning, you are unlikely to have the strength or fortitude to save someone else.

Grounding for health

Many people begin their journey of unfoldment in an exuberant and excited manner. We discover we are able to see, hear and know the spirit people and we want to tell the whole world! Many rush into attending as many circles as possible, throw themselves into giving readings to friends and family, some even quickly take to the platform to deliver services.

This is a fast route to burn out. I know, I’ve done it. I remember rushing out to give services before I was truly ready. I was so hungry to serve and to get the practice of ‘standing and delivering’ that I did far too much too soon. Then there was the time I decided to book as many readings as I could in the space of two weeks; some days I gave 4 sittings back to back. At the end of the fortnight I was emotionally and mentally exhausted and couldn’t even think of working again until about three months later.

This is a part of our learning and development, to know our limits and how far we can push against them.

We spend a lot of time in our minds and mental spheres as developing mediums. We are always thinking, practicing, analyzing and that’s when we are not actually working!

If we are not very careful we can for all intents and purposes, become like little disembodied floating heads, always in the spirit realms and never grounded upon the earth.

Being ungrounded can be a big problem in mediumship, not just in the early stages of development, but right along the pathway.

How to know if you need grounding.

☆ You are walking around constantly picking up psychic information or spirit contact.

☆ You are unusually anxious for no good reason.

☆ You are experiencing panic attacks.

☆ Your internal bandwidth for dealing with everyday life lessens.

☆ You are being woken at night by spirit visitors (guides, loved ones or strangers).

☆ You have difficulty sleeping.

☆ The feeling that something with you is ‘off’.

☆ Vertigo, episodes of dizziness or lightheadedness.

☆ Falling over a lot. Tripping over nothing but thin air.

☆ As you walk, your foot feels like it goes through the floor.

☆ You are unable to sense solidity; walls, objects, surfaces.

(Obviously, with your health and wellbeing in mind, please first rule out any physiological issues that may be causing these symptoms. Make sure to visit a qualified health professional for a check up, just to be sure.)

Top Tips for Grounding.

• If you are able to, lie on grass for at least 20 minutes, with your whole body directly in contact with the ground.

• Get your body moving- walking, yoga or stretching can help bring us back into the body.

• For a quick fix, go outside, stamp your feet and clap your hands several times to disperse extra energy.

• Go to water – fresh or salty, still or moving, if you can at least put your feet in it, this will help.

• Epsom Salt baths, great for grounding!

• Put your hands in soil. Gardening or weeding works wonders.

• House work, last on the list and the least favourite BUT if all else fails, giving your floors a good scrub is one of the best ways to ground yourself.

(And, of course, if you are not working or sat in a circle, DO NOT ANSWER EVERY PSYCHIC OR SPIRIT NUDGE! Only work when you are working!)

In order that you are able to enjoy a lifelong love affair with your psychic and mediumistic abilities, you must put your own wellbeing FIRST.

If you are unwell, run down, exhausted or feeling stressed, depressed or overly anxious the quality of your work, your service to the great spirit, will suffer; not to mention your own quality of life.

It is far better to be in the best balance you can be.

If you do have a mental health disorder (diagnosed or not) then I would caution you against beginning development. Don’t let your spiritual pathway become a distraction or escape from the difficult inner work, therapeutic practices or counseling you must undergo to find harmony and wellbeing for yourself.

Remember: all of your positive traits become magnified during development, but so do all of your negative ones too.

Give yourself time to consider your own wellbeing and whether psychic and mediumistic development is right for you, right now.

Put your health, wellbeing and balance before all other things and live the life you deserve, then your mediumship will be able unfold to the very best degree.
