A Guru’s Guidance

I wonder if you’ve ever simply sat in your own beingness…no guided meditation, no teacher, no gentle music, just sat with the intention of dissolving back into your True state.

I went into the garden today to sit and surrender. My consciousness wants to wander off, to get lost in every sound I hear, but the intention remains- ‘just Be’.

I accept every interruption as an invitation to sink more and more deeply into the moment, every wing beat above me, every dimming of the sun behind my eyelids, every child’s shout in the nearby schoolyard, every car engine in the distance, every creak of the fence on this windy day….Each sound a reminder that I needn’t tense up, that there is harmony and wholeness in ALL of it, that I am in that as it is also part of me.
The Guru arrives in his etheric form and smiles, taking a seat next to me. ‘I see you are trying to Be, Sister.’ His lips do not break from their gentle upward curve, yet his mind speaks to mine. ‘The more trying, the less success.’ Modelling a Jedi Master his thoughts intrude on my process. ‘Know that there is dissolution and True Self will Be.’ I understand and smile. In trying so hard to surrender, we do the opposite. Surrender after all, should be just that.

‘It is good to Sit (meditate) on a sunny, clear day.’ Guru states, his wry smile belying the meaning he wishes me to discover for myself. ‘But could you sit through storms, rain, hail or snow with the same composure?’ Now doubt arises in me, could I remain still and centred even if my clothes were soaked through and the wind was howling? ‘What if your little friend decides he needs your attention?’ Guru speaks of my small dog who is relentless when needing something.
As if by some sort of magic, my dog begins nudging my crossed shin with his wet nose, barking his shrill bark, mistaking my state of being for death. I sit in stillness through 5 or 6 high pitched cries for affection. Did I pass the test? Guru places his palm at my Alta Major chakra and says something about clearing the centre there…
